Every state in the US (and every country in the world) has its own rules and regulations around COVID-19 vaccines and mandates. So how do you know which mandates you’re legally allowed to impose on your employees?

Here, we’ve gathered all the information about vaccine mandates by state and country. You’ll be able to pinpoint exactly what type of mandate (if any) is allowed by private employers in your state (or country).

COVID-19 Regulations and Vaccine Mandates by State (USA)

In the United States, laws regarding vaccine requirements are ultimately established at the state level. The chart below shows us each state’s vaccine regulations and whether they have implemented a mandate, not implemented a mandate, or prohibited a mandate. We’ve also included specific regulations for employers regarding vaccine mandates in each state.

On January 13, 2022, the Supreme Court blocked a vaccine directive from OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) that required employers in the US with 100 or more employees to mandate vaccines for workers or require weekly testing. After this decision, many states adjusted their mandates for state and local government employers. However, private employers in most states still have the liberty to decide whether they want to mandate the COVID-19 vaccine as a condition of employment.
